Under the brooding floodlights of the Drogba Arena, Chelsea produced a composed and clinical display to defeat Atlético Madrid 3–1 (4–1 on aggregate) and seal their passage into the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
It was Atlético who struck first, silencing the home crowd early in the second half when elite striker Eduardo Angione lashed home a stunning effort from 20 metres in the 46th minute. The goal briefly opened the tie again — if only momentarily.
Within six minutes, Chelsea levelled. A surging run and intelligent movement from Logan Granger was rewarded when he coolly tucked home from close range to restore parity on the night and extend Chelsea’s aggregate advantage.
Júnior, operating from the right, then put the tie beyond doubt with a fierce strike in the 72nd minute. Atlético’s defence, visibly tiring, allowed space for Edon Chafer to add a third just six minutes later after a lapse in concentration from Uchenna Owolabi.
Pele, operating from midfield, was magnificent — recording three assists and earning Player of the Match honours with a 9.1 rating. His intelligent distribution and calm under pressure were a cornerstone of Chelsea’s dominance.
This is a team built on a dynasty of dominance, now looking to extend their European reign. With Manchester United waiting in the next round, the path to Berlin is paved with English rivalry.
