Premier Division: Newcastle 0–6 Chelsea – Champions Run Riot as Marcelo Shines
Written by Digby (Match Reports)
Champions Chelsea showed no signs of easing up as they dismantled Newcastle 6–0 at St James’ Park, reaffirming their supremacy in the Premier Division and moving past the 100-point mark for the season. Calin Dimario’s side, already confirmed as champions, were at their ruthless best — fast, fluid, and unforgiving.
It took just five minutes for Jairzinho to open the floodgates with a composed finish after a slick move. Mario Cardozo doubled the lead midway through the first half following a defensive error from Phil Hughes, before Marcelo — in his best display yet — added the pick of the goals with a stunning drive from close range in the 64th minute.
Substitute Netaneal Sahar converted a penalty on 70 minutes to make it four, while late goals from Pele (90+4’) and Chancel Beya (90+7’) sealed another emphatic victory in stoppage time. Newcastle’s back line, overwhelmed and disjointed, simply couldn’t cope with Chelsea’s tempo and relentless attacking intent.
Player of the Match Marcelo was outstanding — scoring once, assisting twice, and registering a perfect 10.0 rating. The young winger, who has recently broken into Dimario’s rotation, covered nearly 12km and was involved in everything positive Chelsea produced in attack.
“Marcelo was brilliant today,” said Dimario post-match. “He’s growing in confidence and deserved every bit of praise. When he’s in that mood, he’s unstoppable.”
The result keeps Chelsea clear at the top on 103 points after 35 matches — a staggering 29 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal. With four games left, Dimario’s champions are chasing yet another record-breaking campaign in what has already been a season of total dominance.

Premier Division Round-Up
Elsewhere in the league, Manchester United defeated Arsenal 3–1 at the Emirates to strengthen their grip on third place, while Manchester City cruised past Tottenham 3–1 thanks to goals from Ellison, Barnett, and Ripari. Luton beat Aston Villa 2–0, and Rotherham stunned Liverpool 5–2 in a dramatic battle at the bottom.
At the foot of the table, Rotherham’s shock win keeps faint hopes of survival alive — though they remain bottom, 12 points adrift of safety. Leicester and Burnley also remain in danger, while Crystal Palace look destined for the drop.
At the top, Chelsea’s lead is insurmountable. Arsenal trail by 29 points but still hold a narrow edge over Manchester United in the fight for second place. With four games remaining, the only question left is how many records Dimario’s side will break before season’s end.
