Premier Division: Chelsea 2–0 Burnley
Written by Digby (Match Reports)
Chelsea extended their unbeaten run in the Premier Division to fifteen games with a composed 2–0 victory over Burnley at the Drogba Arena. It was another performance that typified Calin Dimario’s relentless title machine — patient, dominant, and ruthlessly efficient.
Scott Crichton opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a crisp low drive from just outside the area, latching onto a clever layoff before dispatching it beyond Marcos Helguera. The goal settled any early nerves as Chelsea took full control of possession and tempo.
The hosts doubled their lead midway through the second half, with Shon Mishpati heading home from close range after excellent work down the flank by Mario Cardozo. The goal capped a fluid team move and effectively sealed all three points.
While Burnley showed effort and organisation, they were simply outclassed by a Chelsea side operating in cruise control. The champions recorded 27 shots to Burnley’s 2, restricting their visitors to speculative efforts while maintaining 57% possession and an xG of 2.75.
Francesco Rustignoli was immense at the back and deservedly named Player of the Match with an 8.0 rating. The Italian centre-back completed 78 passes at 92% accuracy and won every aerial duel — the cornerstone of another clean sheet for Dimario’s men.
“We were in control from start to finish,” said Dimario post-match. “It’s about rhythm now — about keeping that edge as we move closer to our target.”
The result keeps Chelsea firmly top of the table on 97 points, with Arsenal trailing behind. With just five games remaining, the Blues’ march towards a 32nd Premier Division title shows no sign of slowing.
