There is no “B-Team.” There are no “easy games.” There is only Chelsea, and there is only winning.
Calin Dimario’s side traveled to Elland Road on Wednesday night looking to close out a perfect December, and they did exactly that. In a match that felt less like a contest and more like a coronation, Chelsea swept Leeds United aside 3-0 to secure their 21st consecutive victory in all competitions.
The headline act, as it has been so often for the last decade, was Pelé.
O Rei of Elland Road
While the younger stars like Joseph Haigh and Rogério José have grabbed recent headlines, the 26-year-old Brazilian reminded everyone why his name is first on the team sheet. Rested for parts of the festive period, Pelé returned with a vengeance, delivering a Player of the Match performance that earned him an 8.8 rating.
He was everywhere. He covered 10.7km, completed 84% of his passes, and scored two goals of the highest quality.
His first, in the 38th minute, was a “volley from within the six-yard box” that effectively killed Leeds’ resistance. His second, in the 61st minute, was a trademark “skidding drive” that capped off a fantastic team move. It was a masterclass in attacking midfield play.
Júnior Starts the Party
Before Pelé took over, it was Júnior who opened the scoring.
The winger, whose “Concerned” status is quickly becoming a footnote in history, headed home from close range in the 14th minute after a mistake by Leeds defender Stuart Davies. It was his second goal in two games, proving that even when he rotates into the side, he delivers.
21 Wins. 70 Goal Difference.
The league table as we enter 2056 is frankly obscene. Chelsea sit on 61 points from 21 games. They are 17 points clear of second-placed Liverpool.
But the scariest stat is the Goal Difference: +70. They have conceded just 4 goals in the league all season.
Tonight’s 3-0 win was routine. 26 shots to Leeds’ 4. An xG of 4.50 to Leeds’ 0.19. It was total, suffocating dominance.
