Etihad Stadium – Carabao Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg
Man City 0–2 Chelsea ![]()
Zain Whatmough 23′, Jake Woolley 84′ | Aggregate: 1–6
It was a night for composure, control, and the arrival of a new name. Chelsea’s 2–0 win at the Etihad wrapped up a dominant 6–1 aggregate win over Manchester City — but the headlines belonged to 18-year-old debutant Jake Woolley, who scored just 20 minutes after coming on.
Zain Whatmough opened the scoring with a fizzed low drive in the 23rd minute, and Chelsea never looked back. Midfield metronome Alan Kardec ran the show and claimed an assist, earning an 8.0 and Player of the Match honours.
VAR couldn’t stay away — controversy flared in the 80th minute as Daniel McMahon was apparently advised incorrectly by the officials, though it had no impact on the result.
Then came Woolley. Signed for £23.5M from Norwich in 2052, the Milton Keynes-born striker had been dubbed the next Gary Lineker — and he made good on the billing, tucking away a confident finish on 84 minutes to cap Chelsea’s night.
Man City struggled to get going, with just 0.36 xG and barely troubling Joby Holwell. The tie was dead by halftime — and buried by full time.
Player of the Match: Alan Kardec (8.0)
Attendance: 53,400
Wembley awaits. And Chelsea might have just found their striker for the next decade.
